Actions required after your IPA
Actions Required Upon Receiving PR IPA Letter from ICA

There are four main actions mentioned in the IPA letter:

  1. Medical Check Up
  2. Purchase of Insurance
  3. Prepare Supporting Documents for Verification
  4. Book Appointment with ICA

Medical Check Up

You may visit ATA Medical Clinic (Tanjong Pagar) or ATA Medical Clinic (Orchard) for your one-stop permanent resident medical checkup. ATA Medical is a one-stop medical clinic with Chest X-Ray, Mammogram and Ultrasound facilities. We are able to provide your permanent resident medical report within 48 hours. Applicants who require a same-day report may also top up for a fee of $32.70 NETT. Alternatively, you may also visit other medical practitioners who offer this service too.

Purchase of Insurance

You must be insured under MediShield Life. If you are above 30, you are also required to be insured under CareShield Life.

What is MediShield Life?

MediShield Life is a basic health insurance scheme that provides Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents with universal and lifelong protection against large healthcare bills, regardless of age or health condition.

What is CareShield Life?

CareShield Life is a long-term care insurance which provides financial protection against long-term care costs of Singaporeans and Permanent Residents in the event of severe disability.

Prepare Supporting Documents for Verification

You will find a checklist of documents that ICA requires for verification in the IPA letter.

You can expect the documents listed to be the ones you originally submitted during your Singapore PR application.

Ensure you gather these documents correctly before your in-person appointment with an ICA officer.

Book Appointment with ICA

Upon receiving the medical report (or medical certificate), insurance documents and preparing all other mandatory documents listed in the IPA letter, you may proceed to book an in-person appointment with ICA.

The ICA officer will verify your documents during the appointment. This verification process takes about an hour.

What Happens After the Verification Process?

After the completion of the verification process, you will receive the following:

  1. A temporary identity receipt
  2. A collection slip for your Singapore Identity Card
  3. An Entry Permit
  4. A Re-Entry Permit (REP)
  5. The Singapore History brochure

These will be given on the same day. You must make another ICA appointment to collect your official Identity Card.

Frequently Asked Questions

You may log in to ICA’s official website with your Singpass. The portal will show the approval online.

ICA will also mail the in-principle approval letter to your registered residential address.
Successful PR applicants will receive an IPA letter from ICA. It has a validity of two months from the stated date of issue. Applicants are expected to complete the necessary actions by then. You are advised to read the IPA letter carefully.
You will need to submit a request for a deadline extension to ICA. Please ensure you submit this request promptly with a supporting explanation. Please note that if the IPA letter expires and you have not completed the necessary actions, ICA may revoke your PR status approval.
A valid Re-Entry Permit (REP) allows a Singapore permanent resident to retain their PR status when traveling out of Singapore. The REP can last up to five years.

A Singapore PR will risk losing his PR status when:
• He leaves Singapore with an expired REP
• He is still overseas with an expired REP
