CT Coronary Angiogram (CTCA) in Singapore (2026)
Last updated: May 01, 2026
What Is a CT Coronary Angiogram?
A CT Coronary Angiogram (CTCA) is a specialised imaging procedure used to visualise the coronary
arteries of the heart. This non-invasive scan plays a key role in detecting heart
conditions, particularly narrowed or blocked arteries that may indicate
coronary artery disease.
For individuals with certain risk factors, a CTCA may also form part of a broader stroke screening approach.
Advantages of Non-invasive Imaging
Unlike traditional coronary angiograms that require inserting a catheter through a large blood vessel, CT angiograms are less invasive, utilising a contrast dye injected intravenously to highlight the blood vessels and tissues for clearer X-ray images.
Preparation and Procedure of CT Coronary Angiogram
The procedure usually takes around 15 to 25 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return to their usual activities shortly after the examination. Preparation for the test generally includes staying away from caffeinated beverages and exercise for at least 12 hours before the appointment.
CT Coronary Angiogram: Risks and Considerations
CT coronary angiograms come with certain risks and considerations. The use of contrast dye may pose a risk for individuals with allergies or kidney disease, and the procedure involves radiation exposure, making it unsuitable for pregnant women. If you have any concerns, please consult a doctor for further guidance.
Immediate Post-procedure Care and Results
Results from the test are usually available soon after, allowing for timely discussions between patients and doctors about potential treatment options if any risks or signs of heart disease are detected.
