The process is generally quick, taking about 15 to 25 minutes, and is conducted on an outpatient basis, meaning patients can resume normal activities almost immediately after the examination. Preparation for the test typically involves avoiding caffeinated drinks and exercises at least 12 hours prior to the test.

There are certain risks and considerations associated with CT coronary angiograms. The use of contrast dye can pose a risk for those with allergies or kidney disease, and the procedure involves exposure to radiation, making it unsuitable for pregnant women.
