Health Check-Up for Seniors
Last updated: Jul 22, 2025
As we grow older, our health needs become more complex. Regular check-ups play an important
role in helping us stay healthy and independent. For seniors, health
screenings are useful for detecting conditions early, managing existing illnesses, and
taking preventive steps so you can focus on the things that matter most.
Whether you are managing ongoing health issues, looking out for age-related changes, or
simply keeping up with routine care, a structured health check-up gives you a
clearer picture of your overall wellbeing.
At ATA Medical, we offer comprehensive health screening packages tailored for older adults,
including subsidised screenings under the Screen for Life (SFL) programme.

Convenient, discreet, and reliable. Book your home screening today.
Why Are Health Check-Ups Important for Seniors?
Health check-ups help seniors detect health issues early, manage chronic conditions, and maintain
overall wellbeing as they age.
They can help to:
- Early detection of silent conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
- Monitoring age-related risks, including osteoporosis, colorectal cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
- Managing ongoing health issues with timely adjustments to treatment.
- Identifying cognitive or sensory changes that may affect daily functioning.
How Often Should Seniors Go for Health Check-Ups?
The frequency of health check-ups depends on your individual health status, existing
conditions, age-related risks, and medical or family history.
Typical recommendations include:
- Annual reviews for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.
- Cancer screenings (e.g. colorectal, breast, prostate) every 1 to 2 years, depending on personal risk factors.
- Bone density, vision, and hearing checks every few years or as clinically indicated.
- Cognitive assessments when risk factors or early symptoms are present.

Some tests may be needed more frequently based on your condition or risk profile. If you're unsure, speak with your doctor to determine a screening schedule that’s appropriate for your needs.
Health Screening Guidelines for Older Adults
Under the Screen for Life (SFL)
programme, older adults in Singapore are encouraged to undergo essential health screenings
for chronic conditions as well as cervical, breast, and colorectal cancers.
These screenings are subsidised, with costs varying based on your CHAS,
Pioneer Generation (PG), or Merdeka Generation (MG) card status.
The recommended screenings for older adults under SFL include:
Age Group | Condition(s) Screened | Screening Test(s) | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
25 years and above (Females) | Cervical cancer | PAP Smear (ages 25–29) or HPV Test (ages 30 and above) |
PAP Smear every 3 years (25–29)
HPV Test every 5 years (30+) |
40 years and above (All) | Obesity, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Hypertension | HbA1c or Fasting Blood Sugar, Cholesterol Tests, Height & Weight, BMI, Blood Pressure | Every 3 years |
50 years and above (All) | Colorectal cancer | Stool Occult Blood Test (Faecal Immunochemical Test) | Every year |
50 years and above (Females) | Breast cancer | Mammogram (subsidised at selected polyclinics) | Every 2 years (MediSave-claimable from age 50) |
In addition to the standard SFL screenings, other assessments can provide a more comprehensive view
of your health and functional wellbeing, particularly if you have certain risk factors.
Additional tests may include:
- Sensory assessments – Vision and hearing checks to detect age-related sensory decline that may affect mobility, safety, or communication.
- Cognitive and functional screening, such as a digital brain function screen, which helps detect early signs of cognitive decline or dementia through simple, computer-based assessments.
- Bone and joint health – Bone mineral density tests (e.g. DEXA scan) to evaluate osteoporosis risk and prevent fractures.

How Long Does a Health Screening Take?
Most health screenings at our clinic take approximately 30 to 60 minutes to
complete. For more comprehensive packages such as the Royal ($667) package and above, the screening
may take 2 to 3 hours, depending on the number and type of tests included.
If you’re unsure about the duration or need help finding a suitable time slot, feel free to contact
us for assistance.
What Should I Prepare Before a Health Check-Up?
To ensure a smooth screening process, please prepare the following:
- NRIC or valid identification for registration.
- CHAS, PG, MG card or Healthier SG documentation, if you are using subsidised services.
- A list of current medications and supplements.
- Any previous test results or medical records, if available.
Remember to wear comfortable clothing, especially if your check-up includes
physical examinations or measurements.
Our staff will provide guidance when you book your appointment. If you are unsure about any
preparation requirements, please enquire with us.
Am I Required to Fast for My Health Screening?
With the exception of Ace ($76), Elite ($130) and Ultrasound
Liver and Ultrasound Abdomen tests, you are NOT required to fast. This is because studies
have shown that there are no significant differences in cholesterol level when fasting, and we test
for Diabetes using HbA1c.
However, if you are known to have high cholesterol or on cholesterol medications, it is advisable to
fast for at least 8-12 hours before your cholesterol test for greater accuracy.
