An X-ray is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses ionizing radiation to capture detailed images of the inside of the body. When X-rays pass through body tissues, they are absorbed in different amounts by different materials. Bones, for example, absorb more radiation due to their dense structure, which is why they appear white on an X-ray image. Soft tissues, on the other hand, absorb less and appear in shades of gray.
