An Electrocardiogram (ECG) provides valuable initial insights during a check-up by detecting specific electrical signals that may indicate an irregular heartbeat or a previous heart attack. As part of a comprehensive heart check-up, an ECG can help confirm findings and guide further evaluation. It may also form part of a broader stroke screening strategy, particularly when there are concerns about irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation.

While it’s not a complete heart diagnostic, an ECG can detect:

• Heart rhythm issues (arrhythmias)
• Previous silent heart attacks
• Signs of an enlarged heart
• Unusual heartbeats caused by medication or electrolyte imbalance

An ECG takes just a few minutes. Small stickers (electrodes) are placed on your chest, arms, and legs to capture the heart’s activity. There are no needles or downtime involved.

Doctors may suggest an ECG if you experience symptoms like chest discomfort, breathlessness, or palpitations — even if it's just for peace of mind during a routine health screening.

No fasting is required prior to the test. Refrain from putting any lotion, oil, or powder on your chest.

Usually, most of our patients complete their ECG tests in about 30 to 60 minutes during quieter times of the day. Feel free to ask us about the best appointment times to minimize your waiting. Your results will be ready within 72 hours and will be sent to you by email.

At ATA Medical, our heart-related tests are conducted by our clinic staff and reviewed by our family physicians. If results show abnormalities or require further evaluation, we may arrange a follow-up with our partner cardiologist.
