ECG (Electrocardiogram) Singapore
Last updated: May 01, 2026
An Electrocardiogram (ECG) provides valuable initial insights during a check-up by detecting specific electrical signals that may indicate an irregular heartbeat or a previous heart attack. As part of a comprehensive heart check-up, an ECG can help confirm findings and guide further evaluation. It may also form part of a broader stroke screening strategy, particularly when there are concerns about irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation.
What Can an ECG Pick Up?
While it’s not a complete heart diagnostic, an ECG can detect:
- Heart rhythm issues (arrhythmias)
- Previous silent heart attacks
- Signs of an enlarged heart
- Unusual heartbeats caused by medication or electrolyte imbalance
Quick, Simple & Painless
An ECG takes just a few minutes. Small stickers (electrodes) are placed on your chest, arms, and legs to capture the heart’s activity. There are no needles or downtime involved.
When Should You Get An ECG?
Doctors may suggest an ECG if you experience symptoms like chest discomfort, breathlessness, or palpitations — even if it's just for peace of mind during a routine health screening.
